Hosanna Christian Academy Reviews

Good School. Gave 4 instead of 5 stars because parent/teacher communication is not as good as it should be.

My daughter graduated from Hosanna and my son is currently a senior. I have found the staff to be excellent and very spiritually attuned to my children's needs. Academically, the honors program prepared my daughter for success at LSU, and my son is thiving intellectually as well. There is great parent participation at Hosanna, with plenty of opportunities to connect with other families with similar Christian values.

After transferring our student to HCA from another private school, we found that the administration and faculty were very willing to help in meeting the academic needs of our student. Though there was a lack of required classes at the previous school, HCA was able to work out a class schedule that would meet and exceed the necessary academic requirements and now affords the opportunity to receive TOPS. Along with the academic excellence of HCA, our student is receiving the spiritual nurturing that we desire as parents. Even though our student has only attended HCA for half of the school year he was able to develop relationships and close friendships with many of the students. He has now gone from complaining about his previous school every afternoon to complimenting HCA, the faculty, and the students. As parents, this makes us very happy.

Overall I feel HCA is a great school and I know my child benefitted from the experience. My child graduated from HCA last year and is enrolled in a 4 year university with a full scholarship. Do I feel that HCA prepared my child for college? Of course! I am thankful to say my child attained an education not only academically, but spiritually as well. Many teachers, coaches, and staff members took on the role of mentor to my child. I will always value the relationships that my child was blessed with, as they have continued past high school.

I have 2 children in the elementary school and have been extremely pleased. The teachers truly care about the children and their education and have been easy to talk to and approach. The administration has been great! They make you feel at home and that you are important. We look forward to many great years at HCA.

Our family has been pleased with HCA in all of these areas. We are confident that our child is safe there and provided the opportunity to develop self-discipline and, if necessary, be disciplined in a loving manner by the administration. The impact our son's teachers have had on him have been very positive and they have challenged him academically. He has had the opportunity to participate in several sports, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, drama productions as well as chapel activities which have helped him to experience a well-rounded Christian education. We are grateful for the sacrifice that the school personnel has made to provide a quality education for our child.

In response to the infraction fines...my son has paid a few of them this year. However, I am thankful he is learning the importance of self-control and self-discipline now rather than finding out about it from a cop later on. He pays his own fines and knew from day one what the school standards are. If he doesn't follow the guidelines by choice, then his choice is to pay the fine. We feel this is a fair way to prepare him for the real world. A visit to the administration was in his past and we could not have asked for a better response from the office. The school is large and it is impossible to take into consideration all parental complaints, but what we do is pray that God would guide the administration and teachers daily and that their decisions would be pleasing to Him.

The focus at HCA is totally discipline. The children receive infraction fines at a fee of $5.00 for discipline issues for such things as socks are too short, shirt is partially untucked, hair is too thick, etc. The school also collects an assessment fee and never lets parents know what the money goes to. The administration is not open to parental input or cokmplaints at all. If you disagree, you might as well go ahead and leave the school. There are some really good people that work and teach at the school. Just because you have a degree doesn't mean you can teach. The facility is nice, has a full service cafeteria. I think the main complaint I would have is--the focus is not education. It is absolutely behind the times and equipment is lacking in many areas.

HCA was a salvation to my children when they needed a good education but also someone who would take a personal interest in their success. The teachers seem to care about the students as an individual and not just a class number. Just like any other school, you get out what you put in.

'HCA' as the students call it, seemed like a wonderful school. Unfortunately there is an abundance of gossip and 'clique' (groups of kids) issues. They seem unopen to outsiders. Most of the students have gone there for at least 4 years so it is difficult to find sanctuary as a new student. --Concerned parent--

The school has some good points and some bad points. Some good qualities that I found in the school was the relationship bond between the faculty, parents and students as a whole was great. As a parent, I felt like I was part of one happy family. On the other hand, I was concerned about the quality of education my child was getting. I must say, I was disappointed to learn that my daughter's kindergarten teacher was neither degreed or certified. I was told that kindergarten teachers didn't have to be certified but I found discomfort in knowing that. Overall, the school is ok but I needed a more challenging curriculum for my child. I also needed to know that if I am paying for my child's education, the teachers will be both degreed and ceritified in the area in which they teach.
