Broadmoor Senior High School Reviews

If I could take BHS out of EBR, it would be a wonderful school. Administrators are concerned about providing the best learning environment for students and as a result students who are not concerned about learning find this school very strict. If it wasn't for the absurd 'one-size-fits-all' mandates put forth by the parish, the amazingly talented teachers would have more time to do their job. Luckily the school still keeps the students' best interests in mind as much as they can while trying to filter the mess that comes out of central office.

Broadmoor Senior High School is very great school. As a recent alum of the school, I can attest to quality of the education. I contribute my success now in college to my years at the illustrious and diverse Broadmoor High School. BHS has the best teachers and staff, traditions, and academics around Baton Rouge. Notwithstanding the scores, BHS is just as good as any other private or magnet school in the city. This is evident through the accomplishments of alum and current students. Go to BHS, you will not regret your decision. It was my best decisions in I ever made. Go Bucs!

I am currently a student teacher at Broadmoor. I have been truly amazed at the quality of this school. Yes, faculty and staff (including myself) worry about uniforms, but it is for the good of the school. Proper uniforms cut down on distractions and ID's are very important for student safety. They allow teachers to easily recognoze who should and shouldn't be on campus. We do worry about uniforms, but that is before class. once class starts the focus is on teaching. The students here have the opportunity to receive a great education, but many of them have other things on their mind. Any student who has the opportunity to go to Broadmoor is lucky. The uniform thing is only a problem for those who make it a problem.

Thank goodness we woke up and smelled the coffee. The entire EBR school system is in need of a total overhaul. They have poor leadership starting at the school board level, on down to the schools. I have been both teacher and parent in the system. I dont know why it took me 20 years to realize we were in a no win situation. My two children attended Broadmoor High. One of my children was an above average student in regular classes, the other an outstanding student in honor classes. While I feel one child got what she needed, the other didn't. It is a shame when administrators don't encourage the extracurricular activities unless they're in sports related. The main focus of this principal and staff is appearance. What happened to the purpose of school? Look at the big picture people! The added 'urricane kids' made it worse.

I had one child graduate from Broadmoor and my younger child attended Broadmoor High School for 2 years before we moved her. She is an honor student, takes only honor courses, and makes straight A's. MY younger child had great teachers, taking HONORS Classes, but I feel if she had been in REGULAR classes, she would'nt have been prepared for college. I know my son wasn't prepared for college after graduation from Broadmoor. He was a lost puppy. No one helped him plan for college or the future in guidance. The extra curricular activities are not encouraged by the administration. The focus is on dress codes, ID cards, tardies, so on. Academics, unless you are a focused honor student, is not pushed. Extra's are not pushed. The students and many teachers are great. But the overall 'experience' is lacking. I give it a C. There are worse schools, however.

I think the school priciple needs to change his focus alittle and try to make school a little bit more exciting for the students, and maybe come up with some kind of incentives that motivate the students. I also think that some of the teachers need to be reevaluated or tested on how to teach and reach the students escpecially the older teachers.

Broadmoor was once a school kids looked forward to going to now kids find reasons not to go there! The school and its administrators are more worried about if someone is wearing the right kind of pants and that their i.d. is on a lanyard instead of ridiculous accusations that get put on some of the children. I know for a fact that some of the suspencions are pointless. I think they should focus more on the education a child is getting rather than the pants they wear!

This school was once one of the best schools you could send a kid to in East Baton Rouge Parish, unfortuantly now it is probably one of the worst. This school, as you probably already heard, has some of the most outlandish rules and regulations. ID cards, for example, I can see a student wearing one for safety reason, but suspending a student for not wearing one because he forgot is inhumane. I just got out of this schoool this past year, some teachers are great like Ms. Potts, other are horrible.

This school is poor on extracurricular activities. They do not have Drama club anymore, they canceled Music Theater class, and parental involvement is at an all time low. They care more about the uniform, whether or not you have your ID in the right spot, and belt loops! I went to this school all 4 years of high school, wore a uniform all four years, and now, only now that I am in college, do I know that this school did not get me prepared for college.

I used to teach at Broadmoor. Here's my concern: even as a teacher, I was able to recognize that discipline was to be emphasized over learning. Pointless five day suspensions where students sit in a room and stare at a wall - what a waste of the student's time, and of their privelege to an education. I do think that the principal and vice principal are good at their jobs, they just need to lighten up a little bit and remember what the school is there for.

They are more concerned on the structure and discipline of the school than education. Parental involvement is poor. Extracurricular acitivies are moderate while academics is pathetically poor. Overall this school is not great whatsoever.

I think broadmoor is a average school like others, but they(staff members) are worried more about id's and dress codes. It is mostly the men who are getting picked on more than the females. I am currently a student at broadmoor. I am supposed to be at the discipline center for a shirt i have wore on picture day.The shirt was a little off the shoulders that's why i have gotten to be in the discipline centers. But as far as my education it is okay except for some the teachers Other teachers have to let the students and i in the classroom when she is 15 minutes late everyday. But keep doing a goog job coach brown, mrs. Ross, mr. Hood, mrs. Denicola, mrs.Sammonds, all student teachers , and lunch ladies.

I beleive the quality of the education at Broadmoor are extremely poor. Teachers and administrators seem to care more about I.D. cards and dress code violations than abot our education. The extracurricular activties are okay overall but need some improvment.

The quality of academic programs at Broadmoor is not as it should. Identification cards and belts are more important than a child getting a excellent education. They emphasize discipline and structure when that is not relevant when you are not learning as much as one should in a high school setting. This is not just at Broadmoor, the school system is distressed. When a twelfth grade physics book looks like a well colored coloring book with more pictures than words, I blame the EBR school system.
