Shenandoah Elementary School Reviews

The school seems to be pretty good(my daughter just finsished kindergarten). I really liked the parent involvment; open house, talent show, pta meetings, etc. ( standing room only). The yearly carnival was pretty cool too. Of course we do not have any first hand comparisons for other schools, only what other parents tell us. But my wife was a teacher (before kids) and she is pleased with the school and staff. The only thing I wish they would do is teach spanish in place of french. Yes I do realize french is Louisiana's heritage (to note: the end of the year play is based on the cajun/french speaking culture; it was very cool). But a lot more people in our EBR community speak spanish and I believe spanish would be more helpful. Yes, I would recommend this school to other parents(it really seems to be a neighborhood school).

If you child needs any extra help I felt like the children became a bourdon and was classified or labeled a problem child. Those children needed to be built up because of their special needs. That helps mold a child into a fine young person. We depend on our teachers to teach. Every child. My experience was disappointing and advise not to send your child there unless they are in no need of any special attention. Again I felt like the school did not want to bothered. I expected more from such a well recommended school.

The teachers and staff of this school bring out the best in my children. They are met daily with smiles and kind words. They are challenged academically to reach a higher level. Along with the valuable involvement of so many parents, the teachers and staff at Shenandoah make it a superb learning environment for children.

Shenandoah is one of the best reg-education schools in EBRPSS! There are wonderful things happening at our school! We have a well-rounded faculty and a hard working staff! Test scores are an issue, because we are held accountable. The orders from above are out of our hands. The teachers I work with are passionate and innovative. We do the best with what we are given. Hard work and high expectations have allowed my students and their families to feel the power of public education!

My daughter was in Kindergarten this year at Shenandoah and she loved it. She has become very interested in reading and art. The rules are quite strict, but necessary to maintain control. I am very pleased with the administration and staff.

I was very disappointed with my experience at this school. This school is not concerned with the children and the teachers don't have a clue as to how to help the parents help their kids. Parents do not send your kids here.

2006 National Blue Ribbon No Child Left Behind School; focus on academics; wonderful parent involvement; certainly one of the strongest PTA organizations in the area; excellent staff; consistently this school has and maintains high standards and requirements; Shenandoah compares favorably with Magnet Program schools and Private Schools but does this with no student recruitment or selection criteria; anyone not pleased with this educational operation surely has not bothered to try to work WITH the educators in place here and just whines because high marks are not handed out just for showing up; facility is well maintained; education more like it 'used to be, back in the day' when neighborhood schools were populated by students and families that lived by the school.

I have to agree with the parent that said that this school is more interested in test scores than they are about their students. My son's kindergarten teacher decided at the beginning of the school year that my son would have to repeat kindergarten and then she did everything in her power to make sure he did. Many of the teachers at this school are happy to tell you about what is wrong with your child but they don't seem willing to do much to help them.

My children have been attend this school for 5 years and love it. All of the projects and tests and long night studying and completing assignments pays off in the long run. Yes I do agree that the staff is impersonal and I do think they are more concerned with test scores than the individual needs of the students. I am compelled to say that if your child is considered not up to academic exellence Shenandoah is the school to get them there. I know for a fact the will not lower their standards to accomadate any one. Parents and students have to work day and night to make a 'c' but they come out so smart in the long run. This year the school has implemented a program called 'everyday Mathematics' I don't like or understand it and the math grades a deplorable.

This academic yr 2005-2006 has been the worst so far. Out of all the 'supposedly' great things that shenandoah had to offer, i found that information to be more than just incorrect, it has been a 'lie' to be honest. There are specific teachers who, in my opinion, are so concerned with other business that has absolutely nothing to do with them. And to put the icing on the cake i hae no idea why the special education department even exist, for there is only concern for themselves rather than the student. The best quality is the p.T.A. They are the best in the nation!

Do NOT send your children here if they have even the SLIGHTEST exceptional need that needs to be met. They don't have the time to deal with students such as these and I have witnessed a teacher telling one child how 'horrible' that child was...with the parent standing there! They are supposed to be the best in the parish of elementary schools, yet it's as though most of their budget is set for polishing the floors instead of seeing to any kind of resource education that may be needed. There are parents that have even considered leaving the neighborhood in order to avoid certain staff members! You have no say over anything that may benefit your child's education experience there...it's either their way or the highway! My children were taken out of there and send to another school where they can receive real educations!

My child is in Kindergarten at Shenandoah and has had a wonderful year. He is reading accelerated reader books, doing math, and has been exposed to music and french. He loves school and has a top notch teacher. He has made lots of neighborhood friends. Neighborhood parents who are trying to make the greuling decision of where to send your child to school, Shenandoah is defintely at least worth trying!

Thank God for Shenandoah! My child is so happy at Shenandoah and has learned so much compared to his previous school. the teachers actually teach to the students' needs and my child is now on level and loves school. I wish this had been the school where he had started. there is also a lot of opportunity for parental involvement and it is welcomed by the teachers. I plan to send my other two children to Shenandoah when they are of age.

My kids are new to the school and so far we have not received the conference that we requestd 13 days ago, we have not received a tour of the school, even though we asked for one and the information sent home for the parents has been minimal at best. We are hoping for some sort of communication from the principle and teachers so that we can be involved in our childrens school careers. We can only pray that things improve.

Excellent School! All 4 of our children have attended this elementary school. Parental participation is excellent for the neighborhood children.
