Southeast Middle School Reviews

Southeast Middle School is not an option if your child enjoys school and desires to learn from teachers who enjoy teaching. The school is not equipped with technology that would enhance their education for college. The School Board inclusion of levels of students seems to be interfering with those children who do not have learning or behavioral problems. If you can afford private school do so, if not, consider moving to another state as we are considering next year. Your children are worth it

My daughter transferred to Southeast in the early part of 2005. She has been a '504' student with special needs all of her educational years. I notified the office and made sure this was outlined in her registration. However, they did nothing to accomodate her with this..and as a result, for the first time ever, she failed. When broght to their attention, they never helped or even accounted for their oversight. I am also furious with a certain teacher, 'Dr.' that is extremely racial and forces his views on the minds of our children. Again, the school allows it and does nothing! Baton Rouge Public Schools are the worst I've ever seen! Our children need Help!

im a student at southeast middle.I think that Mrs.Colvin is a change for the better. I also think that our school should be more interested in students passing and getting a well rounded education than what type of uniform we are wearing. Now that we have a new principal, our extracurricular activities have increased and students seem to be having more fun. Most of my teachers are great, but i do have at least one and have known many others that are not intersested in a student passing, just what they will get payed and becoming teacher of the year or something. Over all our school has made a good change with a new principal, but southeast was not as good as it was 5 years ago or so. -second year student

I attended Southeast middle school as well as my two sisters and now a brother. Although some of the teachers there do try to help you when you need it, most of them don't seem as concerned about the students passing or failing. I am also very dissatisfied with the principal. She seems more concerned about the kids not wearing the right type of 'uniform' pants than with the kids themselves. Overall I am very displeased with this school and most of its staff, I think they can do alot better.

My experience as a parent of a student attending for his third year has been one of disappointment.I find many teachers and staff do not go the extra mile to make sure the children get what they need out of the classes to succeed. It seems they would rather fail the children than help come up with a solution. When a child is having trouble there should be support teams and/or after school classes with transportation provided in all the schoo; district areas, just to mention a few. Many wait till its beyond help to inform parents there is a problem. I do agree parents have a major role, but it can be difficult for single working parents. If there were more programs to assist the children and more staff that would take the extra time to help them succeed it would do wonders for the test scores at the school.

I find this school as a whole to not be in the interest of the students. The school leader/principal seems to be more concerned in public politics and trying to get a principal of the year award much more than working with student needs. I do find some individual teachers that will help with my child's welfare but my conversations with Dr. Walsh were very disappointing. She was going to check into certain situation and give me a call back. Two months later and not one message or response has come back. Other parents continue to feel the same exasperation with how well students are being handled overall.

My child started this school year and has already begun to have bad times. Classes are disorganied, children do not have school books and it has been 3 weeks already. Classes are running up to 40 students. Total chaos at this school.
