BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Lobbyists can spend a tiny bit more wining and dining Louisiana state lawmakers and other public officials, beginning July 1.
When the new 2019-20 budget year begins in a few months, lobbyists can spend $62 per occasion on food and drink for a public official per.
The current cap is $61.
When the lobbying cap was enacted, the limit was $50 per occasion. But the 2008 law that sets the limit allows annual adjustments tied to increases in the federal Consumer Price Index for food and beverages. That index rose 1.6 percent in the last year.
State ethics administrator Kathleen Allen said the Louisiana Board of Ethics, which oversees the lobbying spending restrictions, made the adjustment at its latest monthly meeting.
